Alice Cook Professor of Women and Work

Rosemary Batt is the Alice Hanson Cook Professor of Women and Work at the ILR School, Cornell University. She is a Professor in Political Economy and International and Comparative Labor and editor of the School’s flagship journal, the ILR Review.. Her research focuses on global and comparative international studies of management and employment relations.  Recent research focuses on the processes and outcomes of financialization and new forms of ownership -- including private equity, franchising, outsourcing, and subcontracting of work. She specializes in low wage service industries, including healthcare, customer service and sales, restaurants and hospitality, and telecommunications.

Batt received her BA from Cornell University and her Ph.D. from the Sloan School of Management, MIT. Her work has appeared in such journals as the ILR Review, the British Journal of Industrial Relations, the European Journal of Industrial Relations, the Berkeley Journal of Industrial Relations, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Perspectives, The Journal of the British Academy, Work and Occupations,. and International Journal of Human Resource Management. She is co-author with Eileen Appelbaum of Private Equity at Work (2014) and The New American Workplace; and co-editor of the Oxford Handbook on Work and Organization.
